Volunteer Career Makers
An exciting new activity that Careers in Racing have launched for 2019 is our Volunteer Career Makers. These volunteers could be people working in racing currently, retired workforce or simply just a horseracing fan. We aim to recruit people that are prepared to give up a few hours of their time to attend a school’s careers fair local to them. If you have a passion for the racing industry, we would love to hear from you and share that hunger with others.
The opportunity would give individuals the chance to inspire the younger generation to consider their options in the industry and talk about their own personal career experiences. This would also be a chance for that person to develop their own communication and people skills too.
We will be starting our recruitment campaign for volunteers this week – with the first showing being a flyer the Godolphin Stud and Stable Staff Awards on Monday evening. Recruitment phase will follow by a more formal launch communication during National Career Week 4th-9th March. Normally the career events last 2-4 hours, with a wide range of local employers and industries attending the events. The year groups tend to be Year 9’s upwards. (from about 13 years-old) Evening events tend to see more parents attend along with their children.
As a Volunteer Career Maker, you will also be given training to ensure your clear about the various routes and pathways available, plus access to a brand-new careers kit which will include a branded pop up, table cloth, promotional leaflets and handouts.
Interested applicants can apply via the Careers in Racing job board and will be assessed for suitability before receiving training, this exciting nationwide volunteer scheme we hope can expand and show off all racing has to offer as a job, and career path today.
