Racing Integrity Unit New Zealand – Stipendiary Steward and Trainee Stipendiary Steward.

Location: the roles can be based in the Auckland/Waikato, Central Districts or Canterbury areas.

The Racing Integrity Unit Ltd is an independent organisation charged with managing integrity issues within the New Zealand racing industry. Bringing together Stipendiary Steward and Racecourse Investigator functions for the three codes – harness, thoroughbred and greyhound, the RIU is responsible for investigating and prosecuting breaches of the Rules of Racing.

Due to ongoing staffing requirements and succession planning, opportunities exist within the RIU for Stipendiary Stewards and Trainee Stipendiary Stewards.

These roles will, along with the other members of the RIU team, contribute to the effective operation of racing and ensure that rules and regulations both on and off course are followed and are fully adhered too, with the result that racing is conducted with integrity and there is enhanced public confidence in our industry.

The roles include but are not limited to carrying out Stipendiary Steward duties at race meetings and trials, venue and track inspections, establishing effective relationships with industry participants, visiting stables and kennels and involvement in mentoring and training apprentices and junior drivers.

The people we are looking for will have a passion for and a knowledge of the racing industry. It is essential you are capable of dealing with pressure situations and can demonstrate an ability to apply decisions consistently and objectively.

You will need to be prepared to work as a Stipendiary Steward across all three codes. Work involves a five day roster with a requirement to work outside normal office hours.

A knowledge and competence in computer technology is required and experience in G apps Word and Excel would be an advantage.
