Following on from the success of the 2 years of pilot programmes generously funded by the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association and Racing Foundation. Applications for future cohorts for this unique fully funded training programme will be accepted from January 2019 for an October 2019 start. Over half of the 20 places are already allocated so a prompt application is recommended.
The programme is open to applicants aged 18+ (no upper age limit applies) who lack the necessary horse or stud experience to apply for positions on a stud farm or for The National Stud’s Diploma in Stud Practice and Management Course.
The E2SE is specifically designed to help people make the transition from any previous career to working full time in the breeding industry and applicants need NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE with any type of horses.
Current E2SE trainees are working in the breeding industry having come from successful legal, teaching, college, catering, armed forces and engineering backgrounds.
The E2SE is a comprehensive course developed with stud farm employers to provide basic stud work skills, transferable skills and accredited qualifications.
Accepted candidates will have
- A fully catered initial 9 week residential training period at The National Stud.
- The residential period includes daily yard work, horse handling, achievement of related practical qualifications, such as tractor driving and theoretical training sessions about Thoroughbred bloodstock.
- The residential course begins mid October and culminates in a period of work experience at the December mare and foal Sales at Tattersalls.
After successfully completing the 9 week training E2SE’s will be offered interviews for a minimum 6-9 month PAID work placement on a UK stud farm where they will continue to gain experience and work towards qualifications and widening their experience.
This unique training venture has successfully encouraged and assisted passionate people to get a start in the industry and all initial training and accommodation is fully funded by the TBA. This course offers the chance to start a new career where life skills and a strong work ethic are recognised and help to learn new and exciting skills within the TB breeding industry is offered willingly.
