The Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association (TBA) Entry to Stud Employment Programme (E2SE)

NEXT intake OCTOBER 2021

Applications are now being taken for 2021 with interviews scheduled for late spring 2021.

The E2SE programme is open to applicants aged 18+ who lack the necessary practical horse experience to apply for positions on a stud farm or for The National Stud’s Diploma in Stud Practice and Management.

The programme is specifically designed to help people make the transition from any previous career to working full time in the breeding industry and applicants need NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE with any type of horses.

This unique training venture has successfully encouraged and assisted passionate people to get a start in the industry. The initial residential phase is fully funded by the Thoroughbred Breeders Association. The course is the first step on an education pathway delivered by The National Stud, and offers the chance to start a new career where passion and a strong work ethic are recognised.
The E2SE was developed with stud farm employers to provide basic stud work skills, an overview of the bloodstock industry and the breeding season with accredited qualifications.

The format of the programme is as follows –

  • An intensive 9 week residential training period at The National Stud in Newmarket.
  • This phase includes daily yard work, horse handling, achievement of related practical qualifications and introductory lectures on all areas of the Thoroughbred industry.
  • The residential course begins mid October and culminates in a period of work experience at the December mare and foal Sales at Tattersalls.
  • Those we meet the required standard at the end of the 9 week residential phase will be invited to interview for a 6-9 month paid work placement on a UK stud farm. This is where they will continue to gain experience and work towards completing their Level 2 Diploma in Work Based Racehorse Care (Breeding Option) accredited by 1st4Sport.This unique training venture has successfully encouraged and assisted passionate people to get a start in the industry and all initial training and accommodation is fully funded by the TBA. This course offers the chance to start a new career where life skills and a strong work ethic are recognised and help to learn new and exciting skills within the TB breeding industry is offered willingly.
