Introducing… Dan Kent

Careers in Racing started working a group of content creators earlier this year. All showcasing various routes into the industry or how to make your hobbies your career, this has been done by blogging, vlogging interviewing, presenting and much more. We now jump more into the stud & breeding side of the industry!

You will find this content from our new creators through the year showcasing their career and exploring the different career paths you can have in racing.

So here you can get to know Dan!

Hello Dan, tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m a horse racing enthusiast, who is currently employed as a Digital marketer for a company in Brighton. I try to live an active lifestyle as much as I can by training at the gym, running and participating in a table tennis club once a week. I also, love creating content and have my own YouTube/Spotify podcast which isn’t entered around racing but I certainly want it to be at some point.

How would your friends describe you in 3 words?

Hard-working, spontaneous & passionate

Flats or Jumps?

Jumps (Cheltenham!)

How long have you been working / connected to horseracing?

I have only been a part of the racing industry for a few months last year.

What course at the National Stud did you complete?

Entry to stud employment

What attracted you to this side of the industry? (Stud & Breeding etc)

For a long time, I had only been exposed to the racing side of the industry. It was when I begun thinking about my career and wanting to work in the industry that I discovered the stud side. From then on, my love and passion for horses grew. Seeing foals especially really opened my eyes to how much is out there.

What first attracted you to the sport?

My Dad had a passion for racing which was passed down from his father. He first took me to local tracks such as Fontwell and Plumpton, then we progressed to many others such as Cheltenham. I just fell in love with it instantly.

What is your favourite racing memory?

Sprinter Sacre returning to his best when winning the Champion Chase at Cheltenham in 2016

Where do you feel the sport is now after the lockdowns of last year?

I believe the sport is a great spot now as we were one of the main sports that were allowed to continue during the lockdown’s. We momentarily had the spotlight on us and I believe its now our time to shine and showcase how amazing it is. I think ITV especially do a great job at covering the racing side for the casual viewer. But I think its time to really showcase the breeding/stud side.

What do you enjoy most about working in the industry or building content on the sport?

I feel so much excitement and happiness even just talking about racing/the stud industry that I have to do this. It brings me so much joy that I know this sport is one I am extremely passionate about. Seeing these beautiful animals grow up and show how good they are as athletes is incredible.

Do you have a favourite horse?

Thistlecrack, his jumping when winning the King George blew me away!

Favourite Racecourse?

Kempton Park

Which race / racecourse around the world would you love to visit?

Happy Valley Racecourse in Hong Kong (Looks amazing!!)
