Management Development

The British Racing School have teamed up with an external training provider to provide management training specific to the racing industry.

Introduction to Management (I2M) for Racing

The programme is designed to meet the needs of those who aspire to manage, are about to take on their first management role, or who are already first line managers, but have had no development opportunity. The programme is built around the four basic building blocks of effective management.

o Managing Yourself and your team

o Effective Communication

o Managing Performance

o Problem Solving and Decision Making

Programme Objectives

o To develop first line managers’ knowledge and skills.

o To build confidence in your ability to manage

o To understand your roles and responsibilities as a manager

o To be able to transfer new knowledge and skill into effective performance

The programme consists of four one-day workshops spread over twelve weeks. There will be taught input, exercises, activities and discussion. In addition, handouts will be provided to act as an aide memoire for use after the programme. There will be individual action plans generated from each workshop, which should be shared with their line manager after each event. At the start of each workshop the action plan is reviewed and individuals’ feedback to the group how they have used the learning from the previous workshop.

“I very much enjoyed the course, developing new management skills and putting them into practice with my team. I enjoyed meeting my colleagues from other regions and stretching myself with new challenges.”

“I have always struggled with confidence and by completing the course I have shown myself that I am able to do things. It has allowed me to be confident in my role as manager and in challenging things which I previously wouldn’t have.”
