Foundation Course - Level 2 Diploma (formerly NVQ 2) in Work Based Racehorse Care (Breeding Option)
If you have decided that you want to work with horses but that you don't necessarily want to ride, then think about training for a career in the breeding industry.
The training is open to anyone and is free to all EU citizens aged between 16 and 25. You won't need any formal qualifications but you will need to love animals and love being outdoors and not afraid of hard work!
You will get involved with everything from handling mares and foals to mucking out, grooming and exercising in hand. As you become more expert, you'll also assist with coverings (the term for the mating process), sit up to help with foaling and attend large horse sales.
"I decided to go into Breeding as I had a few fall of horses when I was younger and did not feel that confident riding any more. I still loved horses though so working in the stud side of things is perfect for me.
