Equine Science and Thoroughbred Management

This unique course, run by Oxford Brookes University in partnership with Abingdon and Witney College, gives students the opportunity to study aspects of both the Thoroughbred industry coupled with scientific advances in equine science. 

Course Content

The course is designed to be flexible and each student will have their own programme which will include a number of compulsory modules.

1^st year modules include

• International Thoroughbred Industry
• Breeding and Stud Practice
• Anatomy and Physiology
• Equine Bioscience

2^nd year modules include:

• Preventative Medicine and Veterinary Techniques
• Equine Event Management
• Equine Performance Science
• Equine Nutrition

3^rd year Industry placement

4^th year modules include:

• Training and Developing the Racehorse
• Injury and Rehabilitation of the Racehorse
• International Stud Management
• Equine Land Management
